Cheshire Film Office Relocates

Vision and Media has re-located its Cheshire and Warrington Film Office to the heart of Chester in a bid to attract even more film and TV crews to the county.

The Cheshire and Warrington Film Office is one of five sub-regional film offices operated by Vision and Media. In the last 12 months the film offices generated an estimated £43 million of inward investment into the Northwest economy by encouraging production companies to film in the region. By moving the Cheshire and Warrington Film Office to Chester, Vision and Media hope to further promote the benefits of filming in the region.

Cheshire’s Film Liaison Officer, Emma Welland, runs the new office. “I’m now based within the Visit Chester and Cheshire offices, right next to Chester’s railway station, so I’m ideally placed for dealing with any TV or filming enquiries,” says Emma, who has seen production enquiries increase by 30 per cent since her appointment in 2006.

“On location, Cheshire and Warrington are very film friendly, with local councils offering full support to production companies,” she adds. “It’s my job to let people know just what the county has to offer. There are so many hidden gems in the region that I guarantee no-one will be disappointed if they make the decision to come and film here.

“That’s why I’m now working hard to get the word out that I’m here, and that I’m ready to assist with any kind of filming enquiry, from location sourcing to pinning down a particular permit or finding the perfect crew member.”

Last year, Cheshire and Warrington doubled as 17th Century England and 1980's Berkshire for two productions. Additionally, Liverpool-based Lime Pictures, commissioned by MTV, made Living on the Edge, set in and around Alderley Edge in Cheshire, which has now been recommissioned for a second series.

“Cheshire and Warrington based crew entries on the Vision and Media database have also increased by 41.5% in the past 12 months,” says Emma. “This makes the region even more inviting to production companies, who know they’ll be able to recruit crew locally if they decide to film here.”
