Liverpool Hosts Two World Premieres

Liverpool is set to play host to two world premieres within one week, with the first-ever screenings of prestigious Digital Departures feature films, Salvage and Kicks.

The films were made as part of the Capital of Culture celebrations, which saw filmmakers from around the region bidding for a chance to secure £250,000 in funding to make a low budget feature film.

Northwest Vision and Media, which works on behalf of the digital and creative industries in the Northwest, funded the films though its Digital Departures scheme, in partnership with Liverpool 08, BBC Films and UK Film Council. A third Digital Departures film, Of Time And The City, premiered in October in Liverpool and is currently on national release.

“We are absolutely thrilled to be hosting the world premieres of these incredibly exciting, action-packed feature films,” says Alice Morrison, Chief Executive of Vision and Media. “We have watched with growing admiration as the seeds of each film project took root and flourished into the truly stunning features we have today,” she adds.

In addition to leading industry professionals and local dignitaries, cast and crew from both Salvage and Kicks will attend the premieres, with glittering after-show parties planned after each screening.

Salvage is the gripping debut feature from UK director, Lawrence Gough, written by Colin O’Donnell and produced by Julie Lau. The film features an exciting British cast led by Neve McIntosh, Shaun Dooley, Dean Andrews and Linzey Cocker. The gripping story unfolds when a storage container with mysterious contents washes ashore, and the residents of a cul-de-sac are plunged into a horrifying world of violence, terror and paranoia. Quarantined by the military and ordered to stay indoors, a single mother must overcome all the odds to save her daughter.

An exclusive private premiere of the film will take place on Tuesday 18th November at FACT, in Liverpool. The second invitation-only premiere, for Kicks, will be held on November 24 at the brand new ODEON, Liverpool One. Attendance at both premieres is by invitation only and all tickets for both events have been allocated.

A powerful tale about two teenage girls obsessed by celebrity and fame, Kicks is written by Leigh Campbell (Big Stella, Little Stella), directed by Lindy Heymann (Showboy) and produced by Andy Stebbing (Brick Lane). The film features a fresh ensemble of new acting talent led by Kerrie Hayes, Nichola Burley and Jamie Doyle.

Kicks tells the story of two teenage girls, Nicole & Jasmine are two teenagers who bond over a mutual obsession for Premiership footballer, Lee Cassidy. Fuelled by their fantasy of meeting him, they track him down and before they know it their dream has become a nightmare.
